Chris Kavanagh and The Patriots have been bringing their Luke Kelly tribute to audiences throughout the country for a few years now and Chris and the lads look forward to bringing ‘The Legend Of Luke Kelly’ back to Kilworth on Sunday night, February 17.
Chris Kavanagh has an uncanny likeness to the legendary Dubliner, not just in looks but his singing voice can, at times, fool you into thinking you are back listening to Luke Kelly himself. This will be the band’s second visit to Kilworth and, judging by the reaction last time, are set for another big welcome this time around. A show not to be missed.
Tickets are just ˆ15/13 and are now available at The Avondhu office, Fermoy (025-32227); Cotter’s Bar, Kilworth (27109), Hyland’s Bookshop, Mitchelstown (24528) or from 087-6492514.
The Hillside Players production of the comedy ‘Separate Beds’ will run for a further 3 nights this week, all 4 nights last week were booked out, so it’s by public demand that the play is being retained. If laughter is good medicine, then the community centre in Ardpatrick is the place to visit, people are loving the play and some are returning for a second time.
This is a fine piece of writing by Sam Cree, a playwright not very well known in the general area, the experienced Hillside Players cast deal admirably with a host of comical situations to provide a fine night’s entertainment.
The 3 remaining nights are heavily booked to secure a seat it is advisable to book in advance, dates are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights 7th, 8th and 9th of February. Bookings available from Wednesday to Saturday from 5pm to 7.30pm. Telephone (087) 7655771.
The seven-strong cast involved in this year’s production from The Palace Players have been deep in rehearsal over the past month or more with this season’s presentation of ‘The Band’ - a new play by the drama group’s director, Liam Howard.
Old stalwarts, Sean Ahern and Dermot Rohan are involved along with James Lenane from Lismore who made his debut with the group last year in ‘The Kings Of The Kilburn High Road’. The four ladies involved are all first-timers with the Palace Players - Yvonne Seymour, Noelle Clarke, Deirdre Linehan and Dolores Dermody, but are far from being first timers when it comes to the stage.
The play will run in The Village Arts Centre on one weekend only - Feb 22, 23, 24 and 25 as the following weekend, it will be involved in festival competitions in Kilmuckridge and Castleisland. Booking 025-32227.
‘Sharon’s Grave’ is proving to be one of Conna Dramatic Society’s most enjoyable plays to date with full houses over the weekend. The production, directed by Assumpta Mangan is being very well received and, due to public demand, will run for a further two nights on February 22 and 23.
The play has a varied mix of comedy and tragedy with the evil mind of Dinzie Conlee striking fear in those around him. The wake scene takes the play to great heights and gives the cast great scope to lighten the plot.
The romance that blossoms between Peadar and Trassie, while threatened by Dinzie, wins out at the end of a somewhat tragic finale. Two more chances to see this play before it hits the festival circuit – Feb 22 and 23.
Rehearsals are well progressed for our forthcoming play, ‘God Rest His Soul’. This is a brand new play written by Hank Regan from Dungarvan. It is a delightful tragic-comedy in a modern setting and it centres around the wake, funeral, but particularly the reading of the will of the deceased.
It has some extremely funny moments but in modern parlance – there is some bad language in it (which makes it very difficult for some of our actors who are not used to such language!).
It runs for four nights in The Courthouse Theatre, Thursday-Sunday, February 21st/25th.
The Canavour Players are performing Bernard Farrell’s ‘Many Happy Returns’ at Ballinvreena Community Centre for a ten night run. The show, which started on January 30, continues on this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday as both regular patrons and newcomers are invited to attend.
The play is set on the outskirts of a town not far from Dublin, and features the efforts of protagonist Irene (Noreen Quish) to impress Declan, a former neighbour who appears to have done well for his family in New Zealand. It’s Christmas Eve and the fun is only beginning
A cast and crew of approximately 30, guided by producer Sarah Reynolds, have come up trumps with another accomplished production. Those in attendance were certainly enjoying the Ballinvreena play when The Avondhu visited last week, so an entertaining night seems assured for theatre goers taking in another winner from the Canavour crew.
There are even complimentary refreshments in Davy’s during the interval.
Brendan Grace will play two dates at the Village Arts Centre, Kilworth on Friday and Saturday, April 18th and 19th (please note dates). Come and see his many characters, each more hilarious than the other.
Brendan will do a full concert each night with no relief act, so you get to see the very best of Ireland’s funniest entertainer. Now booking at The Avondhu office, Fermoy (025-32227), Cotter’s Bar, Kilworth (27109 after 5pm) and Hyland’s Bookshop, Mitchelstown (24528). Enquiries on 087-6492514.
FBrideview Drama Tallow is very proud to announce that this weekend on Saturday night, we’ll be performing our great new production at Cappoquin Community Centre (Cavanagh Hall), at 8pm.
This is the first time Cappoquin’s new hall has been used for drama and everyone’s been working really hard to get the stage, lighting and sound ready. The play is called ‘The Glass Menagerie’ by Tennessee Williams, one of America’s key modern playwrights. One of the world’s classic plays, this fine tender drama is directed by Jack Aherne and stars Vanessa Hyde, Irene Kelleher, Brian Hogan and John Baldwin.
Set in America, it’s all about a young man looking back at his family and the life they lived together in a run-down apartment. With lots of humour, emotion and a wonderful score (much thanks to Anne and Andrew Malcolm for all their help), this play has something for everyone and appeals across all ages.
Brideview Drama will also be performing The Glass Menagerie at Tallow Community Centre, the following weekend: Friday and Saturday nights, February 15 and 16. Tickets available at the door. See you there!
