U8 BLITZ
Due to terrible weather on Friday night our gents captain Dave Walsh’s weekend was cancelled. It will now go ahead on the weekend July 18, 19 and 20. We hope the weather will have improved by then.
On Sunday morning last we had a popular 3 ball competition with a good turnout of players taking part. The winners were: Peg Doran, Marian Tobin and Patrick Roche on a score of 78 nett.

The weather may have been wet and windy but Mitchelstown football was a ray of sun shine last weekend with both the junior and premier minor footballers advancing in there respective championships, the junior team defeating Churchtown and the minors sweeping past Beara.
Junior ‘A’ Football.
Mitchelstown 0-9 Churchtown 1-2.
Mitchelstown junior footballers advanced to the semi-final of the Fermoy Credit Union sponsored North Cork junior ‘A’ football championship on the above scoreline at a wet and windy but well prepared pitch at Doneraile on Friday evening last.
Mitchelstown played with the aid of the wind and rain in the opening half and found themselves in arrears 1-2 to 01 after twenty minutes. S Fox, P Magee and Jamie Finn then began to dominate the half back line keeping Churchtown scoreless not only for the remaining of the first half but the entire second half as well.
Points from D Moher, A O’Brien and C Courtney saw the half time score 1-2 to 04 in favour of Churchtown. On the resumption two frees from the impressive C Courtney followed by the score of the match which involved Finn and Magee releasing D Dineen to leave the score 0-7 to 1-2.
Churchtown aided by the elements began to make inroads into the Mitchelstown half but a mixture of poor shooting and excellent defending saw them fail to raise a score.
An excellent 45 against the wind from Courtney followed by an injury time point from D Moher saw Town advance to the semi-final where they will renew rivalry with neighbours Glanworth Team P Horgan, J Finn, D Dineen, D Lynch, K O’Gorman, S Fox, P Magee, C Courtney (0-4), M Maher, M O’Rourke, L O’Flynn, S Beston, A O’Brien (0-2), C Griffin, D Moher (0-2). Subs used E Walsh for Ml O’Rourke, M Allen for A O’Brien, P Donegan for D Moher (injured).
Premier Minor Football Early Blitz Buries Beara Blackthorns (Mitchelstown) 5-12 Beara 0-7. Three goals in the opening five minutes from Kieran Coleman, Vincent O’Donoghue and Shane Beston, who also lined out with the junior team the previous night, with points in between from Beston and Greg Carroll gave Mitchelstown a dream start to this premier Cork county minor football championship, played in winter conditions at Kilmichael on Sat evening last, which saw them leading 3-2 to no score after ten minutes From then.
Beara seemed to realise that this game had started and followed up with five unanswered points which left the halftime score 3-2 to 0-5 with all to play for.
The second half saw the Blackthorn defence coming out on top with some great work from Kieran Duggan, Jack Allen, the Norris brothers David and Pa, Seamus Condon and Pa Molloy. On the restart, Shane Beston raised another green flag followed by points from the impressive Kieran Coleman.
Further points from Seamus Condon, Micheal O’Doherty and Ken Carroll (who was on the Cork U16 squad earlier in the day) and a long range goal from Pa Magee (who also played with the junior team the previous night) ensured Blackthorns name would be in the hat for the next round.
A job well done and compliments to O McGrath, J Cleary and G Coleman whose work behind the scenes organising training and challenge matches nearly always goes unnoticed. A big thank you to the few supporters who made the journey and more is the pity more did not travel as this team are playing in the highest competition in Cork county.
These lads have three important league matches coming up at home against St Michaels and Ballincollig and away to Carrigaline and we ask you for your support Team C O’Donoghue, J Allen, P Norris, D Norris, K Duggan, P Molloy, S Condon (0-1),P Magee (1-0), F Herlihy, G Carroll, K Carroll (0-1), S Beston (2-5), M O’Doherty (0-1), V O’Donoghue (1-0), K Coleman (1-4). Div 3 Football: The Div 3 football team have qualified for the Cavanaghs of Fermoy sponsored league and this game is expected to take place in the next few weeks. Well done.
We cannot let these notes pass without saying well done to the Cork senior footballers on winning the Munster senior football championship last Sunday, also to Brian Burke who was a selector with the Tipperary minor footballers who drew with Kerry, Brian played with the Tipperary minors in 1983 in Pairc Ui Chaoimh losing out to Cork, with the now famous thunder and lighting goal from Tadgh Murphy against Kerry in the senior final, saw Cork victorious. Brian won a Munster minor medal the following year.
Summer Camp: The summer camp is now well under way and everyone is welcome to call out between 10am and 2pm up to Friday. Best wishes to the Ballygiblin hurlers who cross camans with Churchtown (again) on this Friday evening in Kildorrery with a place in the North Cork junior hurling semi final at stake.

- U8s win Ballygiblin blitz -
Our last juvenile meeting was held in the clubrooms on July 3rd last with officers and several members in attendance.
Billy Finnegan, club chairman, welcomed everyone present and opened the meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting of 19th June, 2008 were read and approved.
U8s Winners of Ballygiblin Blitz On Saturday, 28th June our U8 boys travelled to Ballygiblin for the annual hurling Blitz sponsored by Horgan’s Delicatessen Supplies. 21 boys travelled, with 3 matches and 12 players per team, everyone got a game at some stage.
Our first match was against an understrength Doneraile team – with only 7 players arriving from Doneraile, we matched them in numbers but out played them from the start.
Scores early from Conleth Ryan and Eoin Roche gave us a good lead after 5 minutes, and we went in at half time 4 points up. In the second half, with some of our younger players now on the pitch and holding their own well we gained a further 3 point lead – Doneraile scraped one in at the last minute to finish the game 7 – 1 in favour of Bride Rovers.
Our second game was against the host team and started within minutes of the Doneraile game. Ballygiblin were the first to score, but when Eoin Roche doubled on a high ball to hit the corner of the net we were back in the running.
We were all square at half time, and with the long puck outs from the Ballygiblin keeper our defenders John O’Sullivan, Ciaran Nugent, Patrick O’Flynn and Kieran Kearney had their work cut out for them, but they rose to the occasion with very little getting past them. We finished the game with a victory winning 4 points to 1 in the end.
We were into the final, but first we got to sample the refreshments provide by the Ballygiblin club and their sponsors – thanks to all for the fine spread.
Our opposition for the last match of the day were Ballyhea, who earlier had eliminated Kildorrery and Doneraile from the contest. This was a tough game, with great skill being shown from both teams. We were slow to start with Ballyhea getting the first score, but pulled it back to all square for half time.
After a great pep talk from Donal Ryan at half time, the boys went out with only one thing on their minds – winning the final for Rovers. The Roche brothers, the Hogan brothers, Griffin, Craig, Conor, John, Ciaran, Patrick, Kieran, Jack, Conleth and Shaun Knox in goal all raised their game for the last 10 minutes and with the support from the rest of the panel and families on the sideline we came away with a 4 point to 1 victory.
Medals were presented to all players by Timmy McCarthy. Our thanks to the parents who travelled on the morning, Padraig Clancy of Ballygiblin for inviting us, our hosts for providing great facilities on the day, the referees, and to Timmy for the presentation and words of encouragement to the young players.
The team that travelled on the day: Brian and Eoin Roche, Ben and Cian Hogan, Conleth Ryan, John O’Sullivan, Griffin O’Sullivan, Ciaran Nugent, Conor Barry, Kieran Kearney, Shaun Knox, Peter O’Leary, James Buckley, Patrick O’Flynn, Craig O’Callaghan, Seamus Aherne, Jack Ryan, Cathal Feeney, Joe Twomey, Ruairi O’Sullivan, Tomas Macak.
Under 14 Cork County Hurling Championship Our under 14 team (recent East Cork winners) met with the Carbery Rangers in the Bride Rovers main pitch on Saturday, 28th June last. Our boys put in a gallant display on the day but despite their best efforts they were unable to overcome the stronger Carbery side.
The juvenile club would like to thank all those who provided cakes, sandwiches etc. and to those who served teas and minerals to our visitors on the day. Many of these Carbery supporters travelled a long distance and appreciated a cup of tea before making the return journey.
Re East Cork Board - a report on the last East Cork Board meeting was given to the meeting and any issues arising were discussed.
Cul Camp 2008. This year’s cul camp will run on July 21-25th 2008, 1pm to 4pm each day. Our trainers for this year are Colm O’Keeffe, Pa O’Driscoll and Kieran Lane. The juvenile club would like to thank Thomas Mannix who helped us to collect the kits and gear etc. recently.
Congratulations. Well done to the junior ‘A’ team on their recent win over St Itas. Congratulations to Jason Mannix who recently won county and Munster medals with the St. Colman’s College team. Jason is following in the footsteps of fellow Bride Rovers players Brian Murphy and Jerome O’Driscoll. Well done Jason on a wonderful achievement.
Best wishes. To Adrian Buckley and Stephen O’Leary who are currently part of the Imokilly panel. Well done lads for doing so well. Best wishes to all our juvenile players as they take to the pitch in the next few weeks and well done to all those who have represented our club so well, at all ages, in recent weeks.
Votes of Condolence. The juvenile club would like to offer their condolences to the Scanlon, Arnold and Twomey families on their recent bereavements.
