FAMILIES FEARFUL FOR THEIR FUTURE

• A heavenly harvest on a fine autumn day, perhaps with the help of some divine intervention, as the sisters of Glencairn Convent near Lismore look down on two combines cutting their crop of barley. Alas that was last year - this year’s efforts at harvesting have, to date, proved extremely difficult unless of course we get a heavenly spell of much needed fine weather. Many tillage farmers are facing total ruin as grain crops are sprouting second growth and, as such, have a very low feeding value. The straw, which is mostly only used for bedding, is also of poor quality. Much of the crop may be burned if weather permits or ploughed back in to the ground.
