Rehearsals have just begun for the staging of a new play, penned by Michael Dennehy some eight years ago, to be performed at the Town Hall, Mitchelstown before the end of this coming October.
The play is entitled ‘Will Power’ – a two-act comedy where six parties to a will are called to Mr. George Wall’s solicitor’s office to find out their fortunes. If all parties to the will cannot agree to a settlement of same right away, then a ‘Big Brother, Irish Style’ live-in over a six week period at the deceased’s former residence looms.
The play has characters from very different backgrounds interacting with one another in many different ways throughout. We are very pleased to announce the capable cast: Batt Power, Sarsfield Fitzgerald, Eimer Tierney, Jim Flynn, Tommy O’Donoghue, Orla Arnold, Pamela O’Sullivan, Paul Finn and Michael Dennehy.
Where there’s a will, there’s relatives, friends, acquaintances, complications, fun, frolics and finally the settlement.
Please watch out for further advertisements, posters and publicity with regard to the ‘premiere’ of ‘Will Power’, to be performed here in Mitchelstown at the end of next month.

Over the last five years, audiences throughout Canada and the U.S. have been raving about The Foggy Hogtown Boys and now it’s Ireland’s turn! The Foggy Hogtown Boys come very highly recommended by none other than Mr Bluegrass and music promoter himself – John Nyhan.
“I saw the band in Omagh, Co Tyrone during the week and I can honestly say they are tremendous instrumentally and are vocally outstanding.”
John invites you to see and hear the band for yourself when they play The Village Arts Centre, Kilworth on Tuesday night next (September 15) at 8.15pm. The band is made up of Andrew Collins on mandolin, Chris Coole on guitar, Max Heineman on bass, Chris Quinn on banjo and John Showman on fiddle. This is not just five hot pickers in the same place, playing the same tune at the same time.
The Foggy Hogtown Boys are a band with a unique sound that is the sum of its members’ personalities and musicianship. Although instrumentally the band has the power to dazzle any audience, the song is always given top priority.
To conclude this year’s Bluegrass programme in Kilworth, The Ianapolis Bluegrass Coalition – a traditional driving 5-piece bluegrass band from Maryland USA, will grace us with their presence on the following Monday night, September 21.
Tickets ˆ20 from John on 087-7921771 or from any Arts Centre ticket outlet including The Avondhu office, Fermoy (025-32227), Cotter’s Bar, Kilworth (025-32227), Hyland’s Bookshop, Mitchelstown (025-24528) and from 087-6492514.
Lane Productions are on their way to Cork with their blockbuster comedy, ‘Stones In His Pockets’ by Marie Jones, which opens a national tour at the Everyman Palace Theatre next week from Monday 14 to Saturday 19 inclusive.

The story is brought to life by two actors who play over 15 characters between them, in a triumph of characterisation and physical comedy. Acclaimed actor Simon Delaney, is best remembered as Michael in RTE’s ‘Bachelor’s Walk’, for which he received an IFTA nomination for the Best Actor Award.

Cork Opera House and Town Hall Theatre present Martin McDonagh’s ‘The Lonesome West’ at Cork Opera House from Monday 21 – Sat., 26 Sept at 8pm.
‘The Lonesome West’, by the acclaimed author of In Bruge, Beauty Queen of Leenane, The Pillowman and other modern classics, tells of Valene and Coleman, two brothers living alone in their father’s house after his recent death.
The two find it impossible to exist without the most massive and violent disputes over the most mundane and innocent of topics. Only Father Welsh, the local young priest, is prepared to try to reconcile the two before their petty squabbling spiral into vicious and bloody carnage.
This comedy is as black as you can expect from McDonagh however the chaos and conflict makes for a hysterical rollercoaster ride.
