BALLYPOREEN MAN LAUNCHES WEBSITE

Ballyporeen native Garry Bennett has launched a community based website which delivers the weather, news and local notices specific to individual areas. Garry’s site, www.mytown.ie already features sections for Fermoy, Mitchelstown and their surrounding areas amongst other towns in Ireland, with news content for this region delivered by The Avondhu.

The website is fully interactive, with online chat forums giving users the opportunity to discuss issues that affect them in the locality. The site will also provide space for local clubs and groups to put up their latest notices. Each town has an events calendar which allows businesses to list their upcoming events, such as music nights in bars.

Mytown.ie also offers local businesses such as pubs, restaurants and hotels the opportunity to get new customers. The site offers a local directory and boasts an advertising service that allows businesses to have their own web page on the site for an annual subscription.

Furthermore this service can also extend to bookings, with hotels and restaurants having the ability to take orders and reservations from customers on-line. Garry, a past pupil of CBS Secondary School, Mitchelstown and CIT graduate, first thought of the idea when working as a web developer in Sydney, Australia.

He has also spent four years in London as software engineering manager for internet giants Yahoo! and brings all his experience with him to the project. At the moment his site has towns in the Munster region catalogued, with many more to follow.
