MITCHELSTOWN WOMAN CAUGHT UP IN HOSTAGE DRAMA

A Mitchelstown woman, named locally as Mary Murphy, was, it is believed, one of the victims caught up in the latest so called ‘Tiger’ hostage taking in Galway this week. Mary, was visiting family members in Galway when she was held hostage.

CLAIM THAT ˆ100,000 OWED TO SUBCONTRACTORS

Local subcontractors are, it is alleged, out of pocket to the tune of ˆ100,000 for work completed on eight houses in Stag Park, Mitchelstown. The work, which was carried out before Christmas was part of a county council development by builder Frank McGrath.

CREDIT UNION AGREES PROGRAMME OF ACTION WITH FINANCIAL REGULATOR

A meeting took place this week between the board of Mitchelstown Credit Union and the Financial Regulator as the appointment of a manager at the branch has still to be finalised. A spokesperson for the Financial Regulator confirmed to The Avondhu that the meeting with the board of the credit union was scheduled.

‘BUBBLE’ BURSTS FOR TV MUSIC CHANNEL

Bubble Hits, the music television channel founded by Mitchelstown entrepreneur James Hyland has gone off air. The channel and its website were pulled last weekend, with Hyland and business partner Lee Walsh citing falling advertising revenue as the reason to end the channel’s two year run.
