The people of Mitchelstown and surrounding areas turned out to do their bit for the environment last weekend as over 45 tonnes of old electrical goods were collected for recycling.
WEEE Ireland and Cork County Council hosted a free electrical recycling day which took place at the Tesco car park on Saturday. On the day people brought their old toasters, kettles, washing machines, power tools and even children’s toy’s for recycling.
Mr Leo Donovan, CEO of WEEE Ireland, was delighted with the collection in Mitchelstown.
“Over 5 bins of car batteries, 4 pallets of microwaves and much, much more was collected in Mitchelstown last week, We are very pleased at the exceptional turn-out at last week’s recycling event. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the people of Mitchelstown, over 45 tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment and batteries has been recycled, leading to a cleaner and greener environment for all,” Mr Donovan told The Avondhu.
There will more collection days in the coming weeks with Fermoy in the mart yard hosting one this Saturday, August 22 between 10am-4pm and Mallow on Saturday, September 5 at the GAA car park, again between 10am and 4pm.
