People passing by the town hall in Fermoy on Saturday night last would have been surprised to see it a hive of activity with the sound of jazz music and the aroma of mulled wine wafting through the doors. The occasion was a celebratory event which marked the launch of the Fermoy Business Association brochure and website to promote the town as a great place to live, work and do business.
Deputy Mayor, Tadhg O’Donovan welcomed the guests to the fabulous venue and spoke highly of the enthusiasm of the members of the Fermoy Business Association and their efforts to enhance the profile of the town.
The guests at the launch, which included representatives from the town council, the clergy, Integrate Fermoy, Fermoy Enterprise Board and numerous members of the town’s business people, were very receptive to the potential that these two products offered for Fermoy.
Maurice Gubbins, editor of the Evening Echo, officially launched the brochure and website, saying that Fermoy has some unique attributes and that it would be wise to maximise the town’s location both geographically and in relation to the River Blackwater. Donal O Lochlainn compiled an excellent video, comprising of both still and action footage, which summed up, ideally, the sentiments of Mr Gubbin’s speech.
Local artist Maria Dowling presented the editor with one of her original paintings depicting a town scene from that bridge. John Cotter, of Harbour Computing was also commended for the development of the website.
All businesses and local sporting/recreational groups were encouraged to log on and check that they are represented. This listing is free of charge and an ideal way to promote Fermoy and all it has to offer. In the true spirit of the Fermoy Business Association motto “Together we are better”, the success of the evening can be accredited to a number of people.
Michael Riordan, SuperValu was the main sponsor, making sure that there was ample supply of mulled wine and mince pies, while Nice and Easy Jazz band kept the feet tapping.
Copies of the brochure are currently available, free of charge, to every business/organisation to use as a marketing tool within their own company. Please contact Barry O’Neill on 025 30882 or log on to www.fermoyinfo.ie to request a supply.
The new year will see the Fermoy Business Association continue its promotion of the town through networking events and training programmes. The enthusiasm and professionalism of the group seems to be quite infectious and heralds a great future for the continued development of Fermoy.
