The Avondhu Press Newspaper was established in 1978 and covers the areas of North East Cork, West Waterford, South Limerick and South Tipperary. This successful weekly - published Thursday - boasts a readership in excess of 39,000. The first edition was a modest 4 page edition which has since grown to an average of 80 pages.

BITE MARKS AND TORN HAIR AFTER FERMOY FRACAS

A significant public altercation involving up to half a dozen young women at the Ashe Quay area of Fermoy on Saturday night last resulted in injuries including torn hair and bite marks.

DAYS OF ANGUISH - HUSBAND AND WIFE KILLED, BOY CRITICAL, TWO INJURED

Tragedy struck The Avondhu area three times last week as the area experienced serious road accidents last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. William (Bill) and Sarah Jane Chapman lost their lives last Thursday, August 14 when the car they were travelling in was involved in a head on collision.

The Avondhu has been reliably informed that an anaerobic digestion facility is in the pipeline for Mitchelstown. Just recently, plans for a ˆ75m bio-diesel/anaerobic digestion facility was shot down for the Rosegreen area of South Tipperary.

LISMORE SITE STILL IN JUDICIAL LIMBO

After a series of fires that consumed the site of the former recycling plant in Lismore, Samshire Recycling Ltd, the future of the plant still appears to be in judicial limbo. The clean-up plan which was to have been submitted by the owner of the facility hasn’t materialised, an extension wasn’t requested and the case is reverting back to the High Court.
