MITCHELSTOWN GOLF CLUB

- Christmas party this Saturday -

There are still some tickets available for the club Christmas party, which will take place on this Saturday night. This promises to be a wonderful night for members and their friends. Tickets are priced at ˆ20.

Plans for the night include a mulled wine reception at 7.30pm, a happy hour between 8pm and 9pm with all drinks priced at just ˆ2, a meal which will be served at 9.30pm, loads of spot prizes and dancing to Pacific Blue till the early hours.

It is important to acknowledge the hard work put into the organisation of this night by the social committee. This group has been working like Trojans all year and this event wouldn’t be happening without the effort they have made. The clubhouse will be decorated specifically for the occasion.

Members have being asking for a Christmas party for the last couple of years. The club has responded with this event. Spot prizes will be drawn on the ticket numbers so remember to bring your ticket along with you on Saturday night. Don’t forget also that members can invite their friends along also to what promises to be a superb night.

Tickets are available through committee members, from Joanne in the office or from the bar staff. Your support for this event would be welcome.

As we head into our centenary year, the club will be looking at how well this event is supported when it will be planning events for 2010. These events will only prove successful if the members make the effort to support them. Don’t be the hurler on the ditch all your life!

If you are always whinging and whining about “the club not doing things”, well this is your chance to support something special.

If you don’t, and you have no other reason other than not wanting to support it, then isn’t it time for you to stop whinging and whining at the members of our club who make every effort at organising events like this for all the members.

MASS FOR OUR DECEASED MEMBERS

Mass for our deceased members will be held in the clubhouse this Thursday night, November 26 at 8pm. Everyone welcome to attend.

The club hopes conditions will pick up over the coming weeks. Many head of the river time trials have been cancelled due to the bad weather.

KILWORTH JUVENILE G.A.A.

- Juvenile social fantastic -

Our annual juvenile social took place on Friday night last in The Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown. A very large crowd attended as expected of both juveniles and adults alike.

Proceedings got underway with a most delightful meal. Then our chairman John Sheehan spoke for a short while, he said he was delighted with the fine turnout and thanked everyone for coming. John thanked all his fellow officers for all the hard work put in throughout the past 12 months. It’s not easy but we do it, as to keep our juvenile club going.

He also thanked Michael Dunne and John Horgan of the handball club for all the fine coaching down through the year and yes we had a few good county wins and an All-Ireland win. So well done to all involved. As Michael Dunne was not present with us a presentation was made on his behalf and was accepted by one of his family.

Also John spoke of our vice president the late Bill Coughlan. Bill was always on hand to help in the pitch. At juvenile matches wherever. Then a minute’s silence was held as a mark of respect to the late Nora Dunne and Bill Coughlan. May they both rest in peace.

Tom Pierce spoke and said a very nice few encouraging words, also our special guest Elton Pierce spoke too, just telling the juveniles to keep up the training, keep listening to your coaches, saying you might not always win but it’s playing that matters.

Then it was down to business, presentation of medals. So with a lot of silverware on display a lot of medals had to be presented. Medals were presented to U8 and U10 (certificates) for ground hurling, U11, U12 hurling championship, U14 hurling championship plus U14 football league and U16 hurling championship.

Presentations were made to all coaches of winning teams plus to our special guests. Well done to all coaches and selectors of all teams in Kilworth over the last 12 months. Photos of all teams were taken out in the hotel lobby.

The chairman thanked The Firgrove Hotel and staff for the fine meal and then he handed over to the disco man The Bear who cared for the juveniles for the rest of the night. A raffle took place as the night went on.

Just to say a special thanks to all our sponsors. Also thanks to anyone who sponsored in any other way to make this night plain sailing. So thanks to our ticket sellers, people patrolling the doors and to anyone who helped in any way on the night or the days leading up to it.

So to our juveniles it was their night. They were so well behaved. Well what can you say, I know (hats off to them), you were just fantastic. You were a pleasure to work with. So a great night was had by each and everybody. Hopefully we will do it all again next year.

HANDBALL NEWS

Handball training on every Saturday at 11am, so boys and girls that’s the place to be each Saturday.

BEREAVEMENTS

The club would like to extend deepest sympathy to the Galvin family, Lacken, Conna, the O’Brien family, Sean, Ballyduff and the Hurley family, Garryanne, Conna on their recent bereavements. Rest in peace.

AGM TIME AGAIN

Our annual general meeting takes place on next Thursday, December 3, 2009 in the clubhouse at 8pm. As you know by now the club is run on a voluntary basis. A big number of juveniles involved during 2009, great success, thank God. So this takes a lot of training put in by teams, coaches and selectors. We are asking for more parent involvement during 2010.

So for our club to continue and be successful we need your presence at our (your) AGM on the night. Please make a big effort because it’s your children’s future on the playing fields. So we will see you there.

THREE COUNTIES MOTORCYCLE CLUB

- Very successful run for Chloe -

Saturday, 7th November saw us taking to the roads again. To say that the weather that morning was bad would have been an understatement.

As we set off for Galway from the Topaz Garage in Mitchelstown at 7.30am, we all knew in our hearts what a challenging day we were going to have ahead us but we also knew that the cause we were supporting was indeed a worthy one.

Getting into Galway around 10am and feeling the cold the first port of call for us would be to get some warm food into as we knew we hadn’t even started the run yet. 215 bikes left the Dunnes Stores on Briar Hill at 11.30am and headed out through the wonderful back roads of Co Galway to Murrisk where we had our lunch stop.

The soup and lunch went down a treat and was really appreciated. After a nice lunch break and all warmed up again we set off on our way for the second half of the run. This was to take in Westport and Castlebar before we took the N84 back down to Galway again.

We clocked up 380km on the day from Mitchelstown in what can only be described as the most challenging weather ever experienced on a charity run. We had a wonderful night in the Menlo Park Hotel where there were two live bands and a DJ to entertain us for the night.

Chloe’s father, Patrick Flaherty, did the raffle on the night and also wished to thank everyone for their support. I have been in touch with Patrick since and he asked me to thank the ten others that travelled up from this side to support his family on the day.

The run alone rose over ˆ27,000 on the day for his very special girl.

CONGRATULATIONS

The club would like to congratulate Joe and Shirley Spillane on the recent birth of their baby boy Scott, the club would like to also wish Rita Murphy of Murphy’s Jewellers, Mitchelstown a very long and happy retirement and would wish to thank her for all the support she has shown to the club over the years.
