SCHOOL EVACUATED AFTER GAS SCARE

Presentation Primary School, Mitchelstown was evacuated last Tuesday morning following fears of a gas leak. Staff noticed an odd smell at approximately 11am and immediately called the fire brigade.

School principal Kayren Hayes insisted the evacuation was purely precautionary while the fire brigade carried out tests on the school’s buildings, which are not piped for gas. The lower, older building, was the first to be given the all clear, and pupils were assembled there to await collection by their parents.

Subsequent examination of the school failed to produce any evidence of a gas leak and unfortunately for the hundreds of pupils delighted with their half day, school resumed as normal on Wednesday morning.
