IS FERMOY OVER SHOPPED?

While the decision by the town executive not to award planning permission for the Shipton Group has, with some exceptions, been roundly criticised by town council candidates in the June elections, many may look at the Blackwater Shopping Centre on the northside of the town as ample warning that the days of businesses flocking to commuter towns are long gone.

LOW PRICES TOP THE AGENDA AT STORMY CO-OP A.G.M.

- “Legal correspondence received from representatives of Mr Henchy” -

Reports from shareholders that attended the Dairygold AGM last week have painted a picture of a very stormy afternoon in the SilverSprings Hotel, Cork. Over 600 farmers were present at the meeting and many focused their anger at the co-op’s board of directors.

MINISTER OPENS NEW MOTORWAY

A heavy shower of rain did little to dampen the enthusiasm at the opening of the latest section of the M8 from Fermoy to Mitchelstown this week, with Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey T.D. on hand to cut the ribbon and officially open the 16km stretch of motorway which was completed well ahead of schedule.

HELTER SKELTER FOR FINAL SEATS IN SOUTH LIMERICK

As election fever takes hold in the Kilmallock area and the campaign enters its final crucial days, opinion as to the eventual outcome seems to sway this way and that with each passing day. Kilmallock publican and former All Star hurler, Mike Houlihan (FG), is now being seen as a possible poll topper along with Galbally farmer, Eddie Ryan, a part-time constituency secretary to Fianna Fail deputy Niall Collins.
