CASTLELYONS GLANBIA FACILITY FOR MULTIMILLION-EURO UPGRADE

Glanbia Estates Ltd have lodged an application for planning permission for a multi-million euro upgrade and overhaul of its Castlelyons facility.

The application to Cork County Council for the 15-acre site outlines proposals to demolish all existing buildings to pave way for a mixed use development which will include a Centra service station, a Country Life Store anchor market, farm shop and store, four single storey business units and a two storey building with four retail units and offices.

A residential element of the plan makes provision for 79 houses, 6 residential serviced sites and a creche. A vehicular access point on the western side of the site will be sought as well as a pedestrian link to Kent Terrace housing estates and Hillside View.

Plans also include a single-story grain bulk storage facility, weighbridge and fertilizer pad and electricity sub station. The plans come following an announcement last year that Glanbia was having ‘a rethink’ of operations in Castlelyons sparking fears that the company was to leave the village. Glanbia first announced plans to redevelop the site last summer.
